Hin-Yan Liu
PhD Member and Editor-in-Chief

Hin-Yan is a PhD candidate at the School of Law and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster. He graduated from the University of Alberta, Canada, in 2005 with a BA in Psychology, which he followed with an LLB (Hons) from City University, London in 2007. He commenced his research at King’s upon the completion of the LLM (Human Rights Law) at UCL in 2008.

Hin-Yan’s research revolves around the resurgence of armed non-state actors, primarily in the form of the modern Private Military Company. His interests lie in the areas of International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and International Crime.

Olivia Wybraniec
LLB Member and Managing Editor

Olivia is in her fourth year at King's studying for an LLB with European Legal Studies. She spent her third year at the University of Bologna studying law in Italian and English.

Olivia's main areas of interest lie in International, Public and Public Comparative Law. After graduation, she hopes to obtain an LLM specialising in International Law, and eventually pursue a career as a Legal Adviser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Thomas MacManus
PhD Member

Thomas is a PhD student at King's College London School of Law. He holds a BA in Law and Accounting from the University of Limerick (2002) – which included one year at Tilburg University – and an LLM (with distinction) in International Law from the University of Westminster (2005). Thomas was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2004 and the Role of Solicitors of Ireland in 2008. He is Joint Editor of Amicus Journal and has completed many Pro Bono projects, including writing part of a report of Columbian paramilitary activity for the Sri Lankan government (by PILPG), working on Uighurs’ cases in Guantanamo Bay (with CCR) and Caribbean death row cases.

His doctoral research focuses on international criminal justice as applied to legal persons. This includes State-Corporate Crime, State Crime, International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law and Corporate Crime. Thomas is interested in teaching undergraduate law, and postgraduate law in his area of research. He is also interested in research and advocacy work.

Toon Hylebos
LLM Member

Toon is a LLM student at King’s, specializing in International Financial Law. He holds a MA degree in Law (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Ghent, Belgium, where he followed the economic law track. He was also an active member in several Belgian student associations. His professional focus includes Finance Law, Capital Markets, Corporate and Banking Law. On top of that he has a passion for macroeconomics and a special interest in credit rating agencies.

Sophie Murray
LLM Member

Sophie obtained an LLB (Hons) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2009. She is currently studying an LLM in Public Law and Global Governance at King's College London. She is interested in International Crime, Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights Law.

Siubhan Magee
LLM Member

Siubhan is studying for her masters degree in International Business Law. Siubhan graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 2002 with an LLB. For the past six and a half years, she has been a practising litigation attorney in New York City. Her practice covered a wide variety of dispute resolution matters, with an emphasis on International disputes, professional liability, and financial litigation. Siubhan has an particular interest in Conflicts of Law.

Riddhi Shah
LLM Member

Riddhi is an Indian qualified lawyer currently pursuing a Masters in International Finance Law. She completed her undergraduate degree (BCom LLB with Honours) from Gujarat National Law University, India. During her undergraduate course she wrote several articles which were published by prestigious law journals in India, including articles titled: ‘Duties of Directors in a Takeover’; ‘An Alternate Model of Mergers in India’; ‘Predatory Pricing: An Indian Trend’; and ‘Dutch Method of IPO in India’. Her areas of interest include capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and competition law. Riddhi has also completed a Diploma in Laws relating to Mergers, Acquisitions and Restructuring.

Matthew Smith
LLB Member and Copy Editor

Co-founder of the KSLR, Matt is a third-year LLB undergraduate at King’s College London. An American (Texan foremost) with a Bachelors in Art and Art History, he worked previously as a capital campaign coordinator for large contemporary art space and an educator. His professional and academic interests include Project Finance, Commercial Law, Media Law and Intellectual Property Law.

Mark Sun
LLB Member

Mark is a third-year LLB undergraduate at King’s College London. A Canadian studying abroad for the first time, he holds an Hon.BSc. in Immunology and a Bachelors in Education, but most recently completed a Masters degree in Chemistry. Mark loves the smell of library in the morning, but loves the smell of tennis or cinema better. Professional interests include (broadly) Public International Law, Property Law, Public Law, Intellectual Property, and human and civil rights.

Jonny Bushby
Submissions Coordinator

Jonny is currently in his second year of the LLB course studying the Law of Tort, Trusts, Property and Intellectual Property. He has particular interests in Contract and Corporate Law as well as Human Rights Law.

Laure Kroely
Web Content Manager

Laure is currently studying at the Sorbonne in Paris in the third year of the Anglo-French double law degree. Her interests lie in Intellectual Property, Trusts, and International Law.

Professor Penny Green
Faculty Member

Professor Green joined King's in September 2007 following eight years as Professor of Law and Criminology at the University of Westminster. Prior to that she held posts at the University of Southampton and the LSE. Professor Green graduated from the Australian National University in 1979, with a BA (Hons) and from the University of Cambridge with an MPhil and PhD in Criminology from the University She has published widely on state crime, state-corporate crime, natural disasters, Turkish criminal justice and politics, transnational crime and asylum and forced migration. Her current research interests include illegal logging, torture and state violence, environmental harms and looted antiquities.

Professor Green is Head of Research and Director of the Law School’s Research Degree Programme at Kings. She has held research grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC); the British Council and the Australian National Crime Prevention Fund and has been a visiting Fellow at a number of universities including the University of Melbourne, Monash University and Bosphorus University. She is a regular Consultant to the Howard League for Penal Reform and was a member of the INQUEST Board of Trustees for a number of years.
